Mission San José y San Miguel de Aguayo
Known as the “Queen of the Missions”, this is the largest of the missions and was almost fully restored to its original design in the 1930s by the WPA (Works Projects Administration). Spanish missions were not churches, but communities with the church the focus. Mission San José captures a transitional moment in history, frozen in time.
Mission San Jose turned 300 years old in 2020. We comemmorate Mission San Jose’s tricentennial and remember the stories of the people who walked these grounds 300 years ago. For some, this is a somber time to remember the difficult changes that mission indigenous people underwent during the colonial period. For others, this is a time to celebrate excellent site preservation and our vibrant modern local cultures.
On February 23, 1720 the Writ of Possession was signed for this mission
Rey Feo Consejo Educational Foundation
The Rey Feo Consejo Educational Foundation is a membership-based nonprofit founded in 1982 by Rey Feo XXXII Logan Stewart. The organization is comprised of former Reyes Feos who approve other business and civic leaders for membership through an annual application process. Applicants must be nominated by a current member in November.
The organization’s mission is to uphold the traditions of the Rey Feo, increase awareness and support the fundraising efforts of the Rey Feo Scholarship Foundation.
The current Rey Feo is Larry Kurth. Larry has had his hand in many Fiesta events. Larry and Abby Kurth created the Colonial Hills Family Fiesta and the Circle for Life Fiesta motorcycle rally, both are Fiesta Participating Member Organizations (PMO). Larry provided the idea for Champagne and Diamonds to Lo Bello women’s club and helped that group’s formation and recognition as a PMO. Larry is an active participant in the Consejo Real de Reyes Feos Anteriores and was honored to serve kings on three courts, the last as Prime Minister for Rey Feo 61, Charlie Garza. He participated in writing the proposal for Fiesta de Los Reyes in Market Square and was the organizer behind Military Monday at that event. The crowning of Rey Feo at San Fernando Cathedral was another event where Larry was there from the start. The Kurth family is steeped in Fiesta tradition with daughter La Reina Dana serving as La Reina de la Feria de las Flores in 2007.
